Pop-Up Window Cards

Hi Everyone!

One of my favorite paper crafters is Jennifer McGuire at this link.  She recently posted a very inspiring video  on pop-up window cards at this link.  As soon as I finished watching that video I immediately created some pop-up window cards of my own.  I'll share a couple of them with you today. 

Robbie requested a birthday card with a bee theme for one of his closest friends.  I looked through my stash and found some bee patterned paper, bee buttons, and the perfect sentiment stamp for the card.

The inside of the card pops up and looks like this.

 

 

This second card is perfect for someone who has been a close friend of mine for more than 40 years.

Lawn Fawn's "Slide on Over" Die on a birthday card

Hi Everyone!

It has been such a busy summer.  I have been creating things for Marie's shower and Marie's wedding.  I've been making birthday cards, sympathy cards, get well cards and more.  Today I took a break from crafting and took photos of some of the cards I have made recently. 

I used some of Lawn Fawn's "Critter Concert" clear stamps to create today's card.  I also used one of Lawn Fawn's "slide on over" dies.  Now the owl can slide from the top of the card to the bottom.  These dies are easy to use and the resulting cards are so much fun.

Treat Holders

Hi Everyone!

I've been busy creating cards, but today I want to share some things that I am even more excited about than my cards.  Yesterday I saw some patriotic treat holders that were created by Susan Campfield.  I love her creations, but decided to make mine be a little detailed.  I have a stash of star buttons and used them in the center of my treat holders.

I have nesting star dies from Spellbinders that I used to create the patriotic holders.

I was laying in bed this morning thinking about the holders when I suddenly had an idea.  If the star dies made cute holders, why not use other shapes to create holders?  It was very early in the morning, but I jumped out of bed eager to try my idea. 

I decided to create some favors that could be used at a baby shower.  Since I was trying out my idea, I used random papers from my stash. 

The idea works.  Place 2 pieces of paper with right sides facing on the die.  Cut out the shape you want.  Create the "box" as described in Susan's blog and adhere it to your cutouts. 

Think of the possibilities. I like to have little creations on hand to give to friends when they come to visit. 
Look at your dies.  Maybe you have some that will work for you to create treat holders of your own.

Birds Theme Day One

Good Morning!

When we moved into this house 35 years ago our neighbors were Bob and Jan.  They were both the nicest people you could ever meet.  They were like grandparents to Robbie and Marie and were always there for any of us who needed some help, a conversation, or just a hanging out time. 

After they passed away their daughter, Heidi, moved next to us.  Their other daughter, Holly, lives down the street.  Holly and Heidi are just as wonderful as their parents.  Robbie is especially close to the two of them.

Jan loved backyard birds and her daughters and I learned about them through her.  So for Mother's Day in memory of Jan, I created some gift bags and bird cards for her daughters.

I love the gift bags I have been using lately.  They are smaller than the ones I have used in the past and measure 4.5" wide and are 5.75" tall.  I have been adding patterned paper to them and embellishing them with stickers from Echo Park paper collections. 

Here are the bags I made for Holly and Heidi.

 

 

There were 4 cards in each gift bag.  I will share a couple of them today and the others over the next few days.

Origami

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday my friend Susan sent me this card.

She used origami to create the dress.  The paper she used has a fabric look to it.  The creases in the dress are perfect.  I think she used paper with owls on it because she knows how much Robbie and I love owls.  She even put owl washi tape on the envelope.   

Susan is a real artist.  She used to own her own company and designed all of the note pads and cutouts that they sold.  Now she and her husband own an awesome gift store called the Dogwood Trading Company in Dansville, New York. 

Susan introduced me to paper crafting almost 20 years ago.  When we were at a trade show she showed me how to heat emboss.  She also showed me how to make punched out flowers look dimensional simply by pressing a stylus in the middle of them.  She designed the logo that I use on my cards, on my signs at craft fairs, and as the signature on my blog. 

When I opened the card that she sent me last night I recalled how much fun origami is and decided to create an origami card of my own.  I chose to create a sailboat because it's one of the easiest origami folds. 

It's hard to see in the photograph, but there are waves on this card.  I used Lawn Fawn's puffy cloud borders to create the waves.  The sentiment was created with a stamp from Lawn Fawn's "Float My Boat" clear stamp set.

Get Well Cards Day 2

Hi Everyone!

I cannot believe that it is nearly 5 PM.  Where on earth did this day go?  I did some paper crafting errands today and then I started to clean my bedroom.  Not sure where I will sleep tonight.  My bed is covered with things that need to be put away. 

I am taking a break from cleaning right now so that I can post a few more get well cards on my blog.

This first card was created with a stamp from the  Hero Arts "Flower Power" clear stamp set.  It's an older set of stamps so I am guessing it's no longer available.  I stamped one of the images 4 times and cut out each layer of the flower.  After I colored them I used glue dots to adhere each layer on top of the previous one. I stitched the stem of the flower and used a grass paper punch to create the grass. 

For today's second card I stamped the small bandaid from Lawn Fawn's "Get Well Soon!" clear stamp set repeatedly onto white tag.  I used markers to color them.  Then I stamped a mouse stamp from Great Impressions onto white tag and colored him in.  I added a sentiment from Lawn Fawn's "On the Mend" clear stamp to the bandaid that the mouse is holding.

The ladybug on today's card is from The Stamps of Life's "ladybugs2love" clear stamp set.  This time I stamped the ladybug repeatedly onto white tag.  I colored them a bright red, but they look darker in the picture.  I used a couple of different stamps to create the sentiments.

Now I must reluctantly get back to cleaning.

Get well cards Day 1

Hi Everyone!

 

I love having a stash of handmade cards, gift tags, and gift bags.  It means that I can quickly and easily put a gift together.  When I visit a friend, I can bring her some cards.  When it’s a friend’s birthday, I can give her some cards.  From time to time I like to bring my doctor and my hairdresser some cards in a gift bag just to thank them for the work they do.    

When I went to the doctor’s last week I brought her a gift bag with 6 cards in it.  She looked at it and exclaimed, “Oh, perfect.  Please tell me there’s a get well card in there.”  Well, there was one along with some thinking of you cards and a couple of birthday cards.  She told me that she was out of get well cards so I decided to make some for her and build up my stash of them. 

I started out by going through my supplies and took out everything I have that is “get well.”  I found clear and wooden stamps, get well dies, and get well ribbon. 

 

Here are some of the cards I created.

 

 I water colored the layering paper on this first card.  The turtle and sentiment stamps are from Lawn Fawn's "On the Mend" clear stamps set.  The log is from Lawn Fawn's "Critters in the Forest" clear stamp set.  The cattails stamp is from DRS Designs.  The dragonflies are jewels. 

 

 

On this next card the tissue box and sentiment were created with stamps from Lawn Fawn's "On the Mend" clear stamp set.  I stamped the tissue boxes onto patterned and white tag.  I fussy cut all of the images and then used an x-acto knife to cut a slit into the tissue boxes.  Then I slid the tissue images into the slits.  The ribbon is from my stash.

 

 

 

I bought the cherry blossom wooden stamp that I used on this next card at Impress Cards and Crafts in Seattle last year.  It is one of my favorite stamps and I used it over and over again.  The sentiment was created with a wooden stamp from Verses Rubber Stamps.
